Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information shanebates.com (the "site") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. The site is operated by Shane Bates.
The short version
The site doesn't use advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies, and doesn't ask you to create an account. The only personal information it collects is what you choose to send through the contact form.
Information you give us
When you use the contact form, you provide your name, email address, and message. If you check the box to hear about appearances, we also record that preference.
We use this information to read and reply to your message and, if you opted in, to email you when new appearances or events are announced. We don't sell, rent, or trade it, and we don't add you to any mailing list you didn't ask to join.
Services that process information on our behalf
The site relies on a few third-party services. Each handles data under its own privacy policy:
- Formspree receives contact form submissions and delivers them to us by email. It stores submissions as part of providing that service.
- Cloudflare hosts the site and protects it from abuse. Like any web host, it processes technical data such as IP addresses and browser information, and it may set strictly necessary security cookies.
- Google Fonts supplies the site's typefaces. Your browser requests the fonts from Google, which receives your IP address as part of that request.
Links to other websites
The site links to Amazon (to buy the book), YouTube (to hear the song), and Facebook. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and this policy doesn't cover them. Their privacy policies apply once you leave shanebates.com.
Cookies
The site itself doesn't set cookies. Cloudflare may set cookies that are necessary to keep the site secure; these aren't used for advertising or to track you across other sites.
How long we keep information
We keep contact messages for as long as needed to respond and to keep a record of the conversation. If you opted in to appearance updates, we keep your email address until you ask us to stop.
Your choices
You can ask us to stop sending appearance updates, or to delete your messages and contact details, at any time. Reply to any email from us or send a request through the contact page.
Children
The site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
